How TrendNews works

TrendNews is software. Every hour it reads news feeds from 111 countries and shows which stories many outlets are covering. We do not write news, we have no reporters, and nobody edits the digests by hand. This page explains exactly what the software does and where its limits are.

Where the news comes from

Headlines and short descriptions come from public news feeds and publishers' sites, collected by our own news cluster. Every digest and event links to the original articles: the full story is always on the publisher's site.

Digests

A topic becomes a digest when several outlets cover it at the same time. The title of a digest is the headline of one of the original articles — the one closest to what all of them say. The short text under it only states how many outlets covered the topic; it is not a summary written by us.

Events and independent sources

Articles about the same story are grouped into an event. Reprints, copies of one wire agency (Reuters, AP, Ukrinform and others) and articles from the same site count as one source; independent sources is what remains. Sites that mostly republish others are listed and do not add to that number. Routine pieces — horoscopes, lotteries, holiday calendars, TV guides, daily exchange rates — are kept out of “Events of the day”.

Facts and “confirmed”

For larger events the software reads the full articles and extracts their sentences. A fact is confirmed when at least two independent sources state it. That means it was reported independently — not that it is true. Business API clients can get a refined layer in which Claude, an AI model by Anthropic, rewrites the source sentences into short facts: every fact must cite the source sentences, quotes stay verbatim, and the “confirmed” status is still computed by our software, not by the model. AI does not write the digests on this site.

What we do not do

We do not rank stories for money, do not sell placements and do not change headlines or facts for any political or commercial interest. A story's position depends only on how many outlets, and how many independent ones, cover it.

Mistakes and corrections

Software makes mistakes: stories grouped wrongly, a place detected from a person's name, a garbled title. Every digest and event page has a “Report an error” button. We review every report, fix what is wrong and list the fixes in the corrections log. Contact: support@uk.app.
